Short Film Video Production – Interogasi (P.S.A. for KPKT)
Project overview
“Interogasi” is a comedic short film PSA produced by Indipixels Productions, exploring a lighthearted yet impactful take on a common social issue — littering.
The film follows two characters locked in an interrogation room, where tension builds as one man adamantly refuses to confess his “crime.” Instead of revealing something sinister, he begins rambling about his cat, Ojeng, the supposed “witness” who can clear his name.
The twist? It’s not a crime of violence — it’s the everyday offense of littering. Through witty dialogue, sharp pacing, and cinematic visuals, Interogasi uses humor to deliver a serious environmental message: small bad habits, when repeated by many, lead to big consequences.
Shot across two key locations — a stylized interrogation room and a gritty back alley in Taman Tun — the short film combines cinematic composition, punchy writing, and social satire to engage Malaysian audiences in a fresh, relatable way.
PRODUCTION CHALLENGES
• Dual Location Logistics
The production required two distinct environments — a controlled interior for the interrogation room and a raw exterior for the alley scenes. Coordinating lighting setups and visual continuity between such contrasting spaces within a limited time frame posed a logistical challenge.
• Tight Shooting Schedule
The entire short film had to be shot within a narrow window across both locations. Balancing dialogue-heavy scenes, lighting changes, and outdoor unpredictability required meticulous timing and coordination.
• Limited Space in the Interrogation Set
The interrogation room was a compact setup, which restricted camera movement and lighting angles. Creative framing and minimalistic set dressing were used to maintain a cinematic look despite space constraints.
• Tone and Performance Direction
The film’s comedic nature relied heavily on timing and performance chemistry between the two actors. Striking the right balance between humor and realism was essential to keep the PSA message impactful without feeling overacted.
Creative Strategy
• Contrast-Driven Visual Storytelling
The film’s structure intentionally contrasts the tense, dark atmosphere of the interrogation room with the gritty realism of the back alley — visually reflecting the disconnect between “serious crimes” and everyday irresponsibility.
• Cinematic Composition on a Minimal Setup
Despite the confined space, the interrogation scenes were shot with controlled lighting and low-key contrast to create depth and tension. Slow camera pushes and eye-level symmetry enhanced the intensity, parodying crime dramas.
• Local Humor and Cultural Tone
The dialogue was written in a local Malaysian rojak style, ensuring relatability and humor that resonated with local audiences. Subtle wordplay and natural banter gave the film its comedic rhythm.
Execution & Outcome
• Pre-Production :
Developed a short script and storyboard balancing dialogue-driven humor with visual storytelling. Pre-scouted both the interrogation set and back alley to plan lighting logistics and camera angles that would visually connect both worlds.
• Production :
Shot over two days — one day dedicated to the interrogation sequences, and another to outdoor B-roll and the reveal scene in Taman Tun. The crew operated with a compact lighting setup and mobile camera rigs to maintain agility between locations.
• Post-Production:
Editing emphasized pacing and comedic timing, with strategic pauses and reaction cuts to amplify humor. Color grading unified both scenes under a cohesive cinematic tone. Animated typography was added at the end for PSA messaging.
• Delivery & Reception:
Interogasi was praised for its creative twist, local humor, and professional execution despite minimal resources. Its blend of cinematic visuals and social commentary made it stand out as a refreshing environmental awareness PSA.
The video successfully captured the tone of “serious storytelling meets absurd comedy”, aligning with Indipixels Productions’ knack for turning simple ideas into visually engaging narratives.
